Pastry Chef Instructor Job Description:
At the Cook Street School of Culinary Arts the Pastry Chef Instructor is responsible for the educational training and evaluations of students. The Chef Instructor proactively supports all facets of the learning environment including participating in menu development and working as a team with other instructors. The instructional education provided should focus on empowering graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace and encourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect.
Candidates who have a bachelor’s degree, associate degree from an accredited culinary program, three years or more of experience in the culinary industry as well as American Culinary Federation credentials such as the CCE, CWPC, CEPC level will be more seriously considered.
Candidates need strong technical and cooking skills, are comfortable lecturing and conducting demonstrations and posses an in depth knowledge of ingredients. They must be flexible to accommodate course offerings including evening and weekend hours.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are imperative. Computer skills and working knowledge Microsoft Office programs is essential. The ideal candidate should have the ability to build successful relationships with students and teach to various learning styles. Strong conflict resolution skills, and demonstrated skills in both time management and attention to detail, are also essential.
 
Duties:
  • Oversee pastry curriculum and make improvements
  • Create weekly order guide for pastry related products
  • Ensure the proper storage of pastry related products
  • Plan and execute all pastry lectures and demonstrations
  • Guide students to produce breakfast, breads and dessert daily
  • Grade weekly quizzes, photocopy and input grades
  • Evaluate student performance
  • Keep kitchen clean and organized
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of students in pastry shop to create an educational vs. production environment
  • Participate in marketing and promotional events for the professional program
  • Assist in the development of recreational pastry program
  • Activly participates in selling of the 180° program at every critical jucture of the student admissions process
  • Establish presentation technique and quality standards
  • Ensures proper equipment operation/maintenance and proper safety and sanitation in kitchen
  • Actively seeks out professional development opportunities and stays current on pastry and food trends.
